A Study on the Factors Causing Allegric Rhinitis

Abstract
In order to investigate the distribution of causative allergens in allergic rhinitis and ascertain the proper number and kinds of allergens necessary for skin tests in allergic rhinitis, skin tests using 51 allergens were performed in 101 patients at the allergic clinic of F hospital in Taegu, from Jan, 1990 to Dec, 1992.
The results of the tests were as follows:
There were 47 male and 54 female patients in the sex distribution of the observed patients, and the age incidence was the highest from twenties to forties. Over 90. % of the patients showed positive reaction to more than 3 allergens.
Dusts and mites were the most common allergens with positive reaction in 42.3 % of the whole patients, followed by miscellaneous allergens (29.4 %), grass and weed pollens (28 %), molds (25 %), and tree pollens (22.8 %).
In the positive reaction to each allergen, D. farinae showed the highest frequency (78.2 %) and D. pteronyssinus, cockroach, smuts mix, mesquite, T.O.E., mold mix c and ragweed were the next in that order.
And ragweed mix was the major allergen in grass and weed pollens, mesquite in tree pollens, D. farinae in dust and mites, T.O.E. and mold mix C in mold, and smuts mix in miscellaneous allergens.
Since the food allergens used in this investigation showed positive reactions less than 2 % in skin tests, it is desirable to exclude them from the allergens for routine skin teas as causative allergens for diagnosis on allergic rhinitis.
